Nathan, Thank-you for your question. I do think that the government in Canada is desperately trying to encourage Canadians to save. TFSA's are a great vehicle for this as it is hoped that with no tax on these investments that we will be encouraged to save. However most people find it difficult to set aside the maximum allowable contribution annually. The limit for 2015 was $10,000 however the new liberal government will be reducing the limit back to $5500 for 2016... but hey the conservatives did leave a small parting gift. The reality is the government is deperate for tax dollars and this benefit needed to be trimmed.
